DR Congo gets research boost

The EU has donated EUR8 million to dramatically boost the scientific capacity of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) reported today.

DR Congo is the site of important agricultural and forestry research being led by the FAO, in collaboration with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), both of which are CIAT sister-centers.

It is hoped the investment will enable the DR Congo to make better use of its huge supply of natural resources for the long-term benefit of the national population, 70 per cent of which is malnourished.
