Wild fish stocks remain in troubled waters

As global fish consumption reaches an all-time high, fish farming and tighter control of the fisheries industry is crucial to maintaining supplies, according to a new report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Billions of people worldwide depend on fish as a vital source of protein, and while production from fish farming is set to overtake capture fisheries, overexploitation of wild fish stocks continues to be “a matter of great concern”, said report editor and FAO fisheries expert Richard Grainger.
