CIAT and the Climate Chorus in NYC

As world leaders, environmental activists, scientists, and others gather for the more than 120 events taking place during Climate Week NYC (22-28 September), CIAT is there, adding its voice to the call for action on climate change.

CIAT researchers Daniel Jiménez and Sylvain Delerce are winners of the Big Data Climate Challenge.

On Monday, 22 September, Center scientists who are among the winners of the Big Data Climate Challenge made presentations on their work at an event organized by the Global Pulse at the Thomas Reuters Building. CIAT staff members are also taking part in the 2014 Climate Summit on Tuesday, 23 September, including the launch of the Global Alliance on Climate-Smart Agriculture.

Climate-smart agriculture will be the focus of several related events, where the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), which CIAT leads, will be playing active roles (see overview).

These efforts will culminate in the first CGIAR Development Dialogues event, taking place on Thursday, 25 September, at the Faculty House of Columbia University in parallel with the UN General Assembly, inaugural meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and UN Climate Summit. The aim of the CGIAR event is to demonstrate how international research on agriculture and natural resources can contribute to the emerging UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Development Dialogues will include a session on climate-smart agriculture, organized jointly by CCAFS with the CGIAR Research Programs on Water, Land and Ecosystems and Forests, Trees, and Agroforestry.
